Like when I’m shooting in basketball,I keep trying & never give up because I want to make it! Scoring goals helps my team win.”He demonstrated by repeatedly shooting into a toy B-ball hoop, making it very clear that at 7,he’d much rather show me his answer than sit still & answer Mom’s questions! I often watch my son keep playing, even after winning. He has grit-he scores, levels up & aims higher
He started with Coach Wilner, proudly saying,“He teaches me how to be a great basketball player” Then his face lit up & he added “The Knicks!” as if the team is one person.He loves Jalen Brunson’s 3-pointers, Jose Alvarado’s speed & tricks & pretends he’s OG Anunoby tipping the ball in. He even compares his own shots to their highlights! He’s inspired by greatness & perseverance.Most importantly, at 7 he’s beginning to understand that behind every gift & victory is God, who makes it all possible
I recall a moment in church. For weeks, my son reminded an elder who promised him money for ice cream. When she finally gave him $5, he joyfully gave it all to God in tithes.That moment embodied an extraordinary athlete: perseverance, discipline, humility & faith.He brings every competition before the Lord with thanksgiving & faithfulness. At 7 yrs old, he understands “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”Philippians 4:13. His faith will carry him far beyond Athlete of the Year
