Scoring, making plays, delivering the perfect pass, takes pride in always showing up, the challenge of tying the score after being down. For 80 minutes you give everything and knowing that at the end, win or lose, if you did your best, left it all out there, there’s nothing more you can do.
It’s more of a what; overcoming challenges and doing hard things. She isn’t the tallest, fastest, most experienced, etc. so you find a way. She’s learned that competing takes extra running and work outside of practice. That with hard work you can go from one of the bottom 3 on the team to one of the top 3. She learned that if she can’t outrun you, she’ll have to outsmart you. She knows that even the best player can’t beat a unified team. No losses, only learning.
Winning the Kanawha Valley Soccer League Championship. It’s a story of 12-14 girls who lost in the playoffs, season after season. Great kids who played clean, respectable soccer and kept coming up short. After another loss, I said to Kyla ‘If yaw want it, we gotta get better.’(something like that). The team began working, individually, outside of practice time. They finally got it done and you could see the excitement, the relief, the sense of accomplishment. They set a goal and achieved it.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Youth Athlete of the Year, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
