LJ competes with heart, grit and dedication, also with great sportsmanship. Even an emergency splenectomy couldn't keep him from racing.

What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreLJ loves the challenge of racing and the constant pursuit of being faster, better, and more skilled than he was the race before. He thrives on the competition and the adrenaline, but he also loves the friendships and community that come with the sport. For LJ, racing isn't just about winning; it's about pushing his limits, learning from every race, and sharing a sport he truly loves with people who love it too.
God is LJ's greatest inspiration. He is also greatly inspired by Pastor Jerry Dunaway, whom he met at Fuel Ministry Camp when he was 8. As a pastor and fellow racer, Jerry has shown LJ how faith can guide the way you compete, treat others, and live your life. Though they live states apart, Jerry's influence has shaped LJ through the years, and recently, LJ got the opportunity to line up and race against his mentor; it was an unforgettable moment.
There isn't one moment. Every time we think we couldn't be prouder, LJ gives us another reason-not just in how he races, but in who he is becoming. We've watched him stop to help competitors, take responsibility beyond his years, serve others, overcome obstacles and quietly do the right thing when no one is watching. Racing has given him far more than trophies; it's helped shape a humble, hardworking young man we are incredibly blessed to call our son.
