What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

What Luciano loves most about baseball is how alive it makes him feel. He loves the competition, the discipline, the teamwork, and the joy of being out there with his teammates. Baseball gives him confidence, purpose, and a sense of identity. Even in the middle of leukemia treatment, he still sees himself as an athlete. That says everything about who he is.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Luciano is inspired by the people who keep showing up for him, especially his teammates, coaches, and family. They remind him that strength is not just about winning. It is about heart, resilience, and refusing to quit. At the same time, Luciano has become an inspiration to all of us. The courage, grit, and determination he has shown throughout his fight with leukemia have redefined what toughness really looks like.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One day during treatment, Luciano felt well enough to pick up a bat again. He went into the yard knowing he would not be as strong as he was before leukemia. After only a handful of hits, he could see the difference. But he was not discouraged. He simply accepted that when he beats cancer, he will have to work that much harder to get back where he was. No self pity. No excuses. Just determination. That moment showed me exactly what kind of athlete he is.
