Join the CompetitionHi, My name is Maiya. and what I love most about my sport is the ability to completely forget about all the bad and focus on the positive with my team. Every time I step foot on the court I feel safe, supported and respected by not only my coaches but my teammates. I grew up playing volleyball and not once did I feel the need to be in closed or felt left out by my team. My teammates and coaches are the biggest influence of my love for the sport.
The person who inspires me the most on and off of the court is my best friend Claire. Claire has never once said anything negative about me or others on the court. She constantly makes everyone feel comfortable and confident, Claire is my biggest inspiration. My senior year of volleyball she was named team captain and I couldn’t be more proud. The role fit her perfectly and I was always going to be on her side with every decision and support she gave to the team.
Watching Maiya become a team player really brought out the best in her. She has become such an amazing woman. Seeing others for who they are and so accepting and meeting others at where they are in life and just encouraging them. I have seen this both on the court and at home
