What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Maria loves being able to see how hard she can push herself, and being a part of a supportive community. She enjoys making friends from all over the country & cheering for them at events. It’s fun to see so many people from different teams support each other at meets.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Maria would say her parents and coaches, especially Coach Lori and Coach Tapp inspire her because they give her confidence and share their experiences to help her live in the moment. As well as XC camp friends and friends from other teams because they are a great community and inspire her to work harder and be supportive of others. These people have become a team to her, although never being on the same team.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Maria has turned her passion for running into a community where she can support others. She started a youth organization to provide running equipment to help others succeed. She has single handedly organized & hosted multiple events to collect donations to provide the equipment & works to connect with those she provides equipment to. She strives to be a positive role model for others & encourages others on their journey.
