My daughter plays both soccer and lacrosse. She plays for school and club. Her drive and determination are undeniable.
Thank you for supporting Marissa in this competition. Your participation made a huge impact for the Why Not You Foundation and their mission to empower change in the world, one individual at a time and one child at a time.
What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreWhat my daughter loves the most about playing her sports is being able to step on the field and show people what she is made of. She loves having competition in scoring and playing good defensive and having the feeling of what she likes doing best.
Marissa's cousin Alicia inspired her on and off the field because she worked very hard to earn a spot on Wake Forest's soccer team and also overcame an injury (torn ACL) going into her freshman year. She never gave up or loss hope and that inspired Marissa. She wants to be just like her and work as hard so she can continue to play soccer in both high school and college.
The moment that makes me proudest is this past year. Marissa made the decision to try out for a new team to challenge herself and fractured her ankle during the first tournament. At that same time Marissa was challenged with family issues that no 14-year-old girl should have to. Marissa overcame difficult challenges and continued to prevail as an athlete and woman. Watching her this past year taught me so much about what determination looks like and I could not be any prouder of her.
