What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Mark loves hockey’s combination of speed, strategy, and teamwork. Every shift asks him to read the ice, make quick decisions, and trust the players beside him. He loves that improvement never ends: there is always a skill to sharpen, a mistake to learn from, or a teammate to support. Most of all, hockey gives him a community. Whether competing in a high-level game or helping a younger child learn to skate, he feels most fulfilled when the sport brings people together.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Mark is inspired by his coaches, teammates, and the younger skaters he assists in Learn-to-Skate. His coaches show him that growth comes from discipline and accepting feedback. His teammates teach him trust, accountability, and how to put the team before himself. The younger players remind him of the joy that started his own hockey journey and inspire him to lead with patience, encouragement, and example—on and off the ice.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One of my proudest moments was watching Mark compete at the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Hershey Jr. Bears. The level of competition was remarkable, but what made me proudest was not a score or statistic. It was seeing him stay composed, support his teammates, and meet every challenge with courage and gratitude. That experience showed how years of early mornings, setbacks, and hard work had shaped him into a resilient teammate and young man.
