Maverick looks up to his mom because she shows him what strength, courage, and perseverance look like. She inspires him to work hard, stay positive, and never give up—on or off the field.
One of my proudest moments was watching Maverick encourage his teammates to keep playing hard even though they were hot and behind. He then led by example, hitting a ground-ball home run that brought in two teammates. I was proud not only of the hit, but of the heart, leadership, and determination he showed.
