What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreMax loves playing sports because it’s his happy place. He loves being part of a team and the bonds he holds with each team mate is why he plays besides the love of the sport. The people around him are what make the sport special. He genuinely loves being around his team mates and helping set them up to succeed. Max can be seen smiling the whole time he plays. The field and court are where he finds joy and shares that joy cheering on his team.
Max is inspired by his late dad. Max’s dad died of ALS in 2022 when Max was only 10. His dad never got to see Max play in person at basketball or soccer. Max would ensure every game was recorded so he could show his dad as soon as he was home. Because his dad was a tremendous athlete in basketball, football, and track as well as a motorcycle racer, Max strives to be like him holding onto his father’s childhood photos and trophies knowing his dad cheers him on from above.
I’m always proud of Max and cannot think of one specific moment that makes me the proudest, but it’s the small moments, the leadership, and the instant split second decisions, that are purely unselfish that stand out. When I see him give up a shot to pass to someone else to shoot because he knows that’s a higher percentage shot if they take it, or it’s when I see him set up another player to succeed or score especially when they are having a tough time, that I am proudest of Max.
