Firstly, Maya loves karate because it challenges her memory and that makes it fun and builds her level of discipline. These traits transcends to also playing Ultimate Frisbee and Hockey. Maya loves playing Ultimate because she loves using her speed and creativity when it comes to trying new things. The passion Maya has for hockey is due to hard work and persistence. She loves playing it, eventhough it requires endurance and stamina in all aspects. This pushes her to persevere to be her best.
Maya is inspired by her mom, for her hard work and her strength. She is her role model, not only as a mother figure but also a pillar and standard to withhold in anything she does. Maya holds this same strength in any sport she does. Her quality in practice and diligence in game play is how she holds this strength. Her mother guides her and provides the love and support in anything she wants to pursue. She provides the comfort when limits are being pushed and the support when space is needed.
Maya first learned to skate on the outdoor rink across from our home before joining local skating lessons. MLSE ran a girls' hockey clinic, Hockey in the Neighborhood which sparked her love for the game. Through relentless daily practice, she progressed from U11 House League to U18AA, proving that hard work pays off. Our proudest moment came on July 28, 2026, when she earned a spot on OWHA High Performance team at ON Summer Games. A dream realized through dedication, perseverance, and passion.
