What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreMekhi loves the defensive aspect of his sport. Even though he plays both sides of the ball, offense and defense, he takes pride in defending and creating opportunities for his team to get the ball back.
I believe the love of his entire family, including the dogs lol. The family dynamic provides a lot of security and confidence in him. If we’re not altogether, progress or success in anything isn’t as satisfying if He can’t share it with family.
Honestly the proudest I’ve ever been is when I saw his athletic mentality transfer to his education and public speaking skills. He competed and won a 2025 Austin area MLK Speech competition. It was his first speech competition ever. But I watched him study day after day, after school training and at home. Memorizing and performing. He was so bold and confident. He had the same aura as he did taking the ball from an opponent to proceed to score the fast break layup.
