What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Mikaeya loves sports because each one challenges her differently. In water polo, she uses her speed, quick thinking, & defense to stay with her opponent and shut down plays. In volleyball, she brings powerful jump serves, strong receives, and nonstop hustle, chasing down every ball and giving every play her all. In track, she pushes herself to improve her PRs. Her versatility, determination, and love for competition make her a true all-around athlete, while her energy inspires all her teammates.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Kaeya’s waterpolo coach, Hazel, has been one of her biggest inspirations. Through every challenge Kaeya has faced in water polo, Hazel has never stopped believing in her strength, potential, and abilities as an athlete. Even when Kaeya feels at her lowest, Hazel continues to remind her of what she is capable of. That unwavering belief has taught Mikaeya to trust herself, stay resilient, and never give up. She carries that same confidence, determination, and strength into every sport she plays.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One of the moments I’m proudest of is when Mikaeya became the first freshman in 10 years to make the Varsity water polo team. She not only earned her spot among older, more experienced athletes, but finished her freshman year being awarded Most Improved Athlete of the Year. It was an incredible reflection of her hard work, determination, and willingness to challenge herself.
