What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Montez loves competing, the challenge of the game, and being part of a team. Whether he’s playing baseball, basketball or running, he especially loves the relationships he gets to build with different teammates and coaches. He has a gentle way of making others leading others and creating a sense of belonging for all on the teams he’s been blessed to play with and run for.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Montez is inspired by his parents and family, who have shown him what hard work, perseverance and commitment look like. He also looks up to athletes who compete with discipline and humility. He wants to be the kind of athlete who works hard, leads by example and makes the people around him better.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Montez was recently a guest player in an ongoing adult league Ultimate Frisbee game and made a offensive 5 foot leap in the air to fling the frisbee to a teammate who flung it right into the goal post and scored! A move I was told is RARE and unseen by so many adults playing with him that day. It reminded me of the kind of athlete he is in any sport- finding offensive and defensive opportunities to demonstrate true athleticism, team value and sportsmanship at its finest. 🫶🏽
