What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreNakai loves the competition, teamwork, and excitement of basketball. He enjoys challenging himself, improving his skills, and contributing to his team. He especially loves playing defense, making big plays, and helping his teammates succeed. Basketball gives him confidence, discipline, and motivation to keep working hard and becoming a better athlete
Nakai is inspired by Kyrie Irving because of his creativity, confidence, incredible ball-handling skills, and dedication to the game. He is also inspired by the older players he watches at Potomac Park in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. Watching them compete, work hard, and play with toughness motivates Nakai to improve his own game. Growing up around Brooklyn basketball culture has taught him that some of the best players are made right in the neighborhood parks. 🏀💪🏾
One of my proudest moments was watching Nakai compete in the Isaiah Whitehead Tournament. He played hard, stayed focused, and most importantly, kept a level head throughout the game. Seeing his growth, determination, and ability to stay mentally locked in under pressure made me extremely proud. Ending the tournament as MVP was the icing on the cake and showed that his hard work is paying off. 🏀🏆
