What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Oliver loves baseball because it gives him a team of people who share the same interests, goals, and love for the game. It keeps him healthy and strong, gives him something to look forward to, and always gives him a new goal to chase. He loves the feel of the grass, dirt crunching under his cleat, and the smell of his leather glove. Oliver also values being a positive leader, encouraging his teammates, and helping younger athletes grow in confidence and skill.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Oliver is inspired by Freddie Freeman’s humility, work ethic, and success as a fellow lefty; Greg Maddux’s confidence and growth mindset, captured in a quote Oliver reads every day; and his personal coach, Sam Bruno. Bruno believes in Oliver, gives him honest feedback and goals, and brings deep baseball knowledge. Most importantly, he is a steady, positive mentor who pushes Oliver to become not only a better player, but a better person.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

There are many moments that make me proud, but one picture says it best. During a mound visit, Oliver has his hand on a younger pitcher’s back, making sure he feels supported and ready. Oliver knows baseball is a team sport, yet the mound can feel like the loneliest place on the field. He works hard to include others, offer positive feedback, and help teammates feel confident. That quiet leadership means more to me than any shutout, strikeout total, or great play at first.
