Pedro loves the intelligence, intensity, and teamwork of water polo. He loves reading the game, creating opportunities for his teammates, defending aggressively, and competing when the pressure is highest. More than anything, he loves that the sport constantly challenges him to think faster, work harder, and become better.
My parents inspire me most. They have made tremendous sacrifices to support my goals, including helping me leave Puerto Rico and begin a new life in Miami to pursue better academic and athletic opportunities. Their strength, hard work, and belief in me push me to stay disciplined, overcome challenges, and make the most of every opportunity they have worked so hard to give me.
The moment that makes me proudest was watching Pedro choose the harder path for his future. At 17, he left the life he knew in Puerto Rico, his family, friends, school, and community, and started over in Miami to pursue his athletic goals. He understood the sacrifice that choice required and made it with courage and conviction. Seeing him remain disciplined, focused, and determined through such a major transition has made me prouder than any medal, victory, or recognition ever could.
