What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Pierce feels like playing football calms him down. His brain is focused on his assignment and making plays so he has little to no tics! For a kid who feels like he is not in control of his brain most of the time he absolutely loves being able to have a clear head where Tourette's and OCD are not in charge. Oh, and of course he loves to tackle! Sacks, forced fumbles, and kick recoveries are his specialty.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Pierce's principal, Mr. Dahl, really inspires him. For years school has been really challenging for Pierce. He often feels like he's more of a "problem" than a student teachers can connect with. Pierce says, "he believes in me more than everyone else there. He loves football too and he makes me feel like I can do it and I actually have someone on my side." Mr. Dahl has made a huge difference in Pierce's life!

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Pierce is an excellent athlete but the moment that makes me proudest has nothing to do with his skills or the plays he makes. After every hit Pierce delivers he picks up his opponent. When he recovers a fumble he claps the runner on back and says, "that was a great run! You're a tough player." He understands that people are more than their best or worst moments and that's clear as he competes.
