What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

He loves playing basketball because it makes him happy and gives him a sense of freedom. When he steps onto the court and focuses on his game and his future, all the fears and worries of life seem to disappear. Basketball gives him a place where he can be himself, stay focused, and work toward becoming the person and athlete he dreams of being.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, and my dad inspire me the most. LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards inspire me to always do my best, work hard, and give it my all every time I step on the court. My dad is my biggest inspiration because he introduced me to the game and taught me how to love basketball. He showed me that basketball is something to enjoy, respect, and grow through—not something to burn out or take for granted.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

The moment that makes me proudest isn’t actually on the court—it’s what I see from my son off the court. I’m proud when he stands up for those who can’t stand up for themselves, when he takes the time to help younger kids, and when he teaches kids who are still learning the game. I’m also incredibly proud of how he handles adversity. After a loss, he may be sad and even cry because he cares so deeply about his team and the game. But he doesn’t give up. He comes to me and says next time dad.
