What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Sa'Mya loves that every practice gives her the chance to grow. She enjoys learning new skills, setting goals, and seeing how hard work turns into progress. Sports have taught her to be brave, stay positive through challenges, and never give up when something is difficult. Whether she's on the volleyball court or in the gym, she believes every challenge is an opportunity to become stronger, more confident, and the best version of herself.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Sa'Mya is inspired by her mom, who coaches high school volleyball. She has spent countless hours in gyms watching practices and games, learning what leadership, perseverance, and hard work look like. She also finds inspiration in the older girls she watches compete because they encourage her to dream big and remind her that with dedication and faith, she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

One of the proudest moments I've had as Sa'Mya's mom has been watching her grow into a confident and determined young athlete. She has faced challenges that no child should experience, but she never lets them define her. At just 7 years old, she earned an invitation to play with the MAVSKC 9U competitive volleyball team. Watching her compete fearlessly against older girls reminds me that confidence comes from hard work, perseverance, and believing in yourself.
