What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreWhat I love most about gymnastics is that it always gives me something to fight for. After battling anorexia and having the sport taken away while I focused on recovery, I realized how much gymnastics truly means to me. Coming back taught me to appreciate every practice, skill, and opportunity. Gymnastics has taught me resilience, strength, and how to get back up, and my dream is to continue that journey as a college gymnast.
Reese Esponda inspires me because of the way she responds when things don’t go as planned. After a serious foot injury made her put gymnastics on a pause, she worked her way back and continued to follow huge goals. I relate to having the sport you love taken away and having to fight for the chance to return. She reminds me that setbacks don’t have to change your dreams they can make you stronger and even more determined to reach them.
The moment I’m most proud of is her walking back into the gym after having to step away to recover from anorexia. For months, her biggest challenge wasn’t learning a new skill, it was fighting to become healthy enough to do the sport I love again. Returning reminded her that strength is more than what she can do in the gym. Choosing recovery gave her the chance to keep chasing her dream of becoming a college gymnast.
