What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreShamar has always been one of the youngest on his teams and is the youngest of three siblings, so competing has always been a part of him. He loves proving himself, getting better, and pushing himself against older athletes. More than anything, he sees sports as an opportunity to create a better future for himself and his family.
His older brothers, Malik and Kentrel, are two of his biggest inspirations. Being the youngest, Shamar has always looked up to them. On the field, Malik pushes him to give 100% because you never know who’s watching and wants him to become better than he ever was. Off the field, Kentrel teaches him to have a mind of his own, follow his dreams, work hard, and chase every opportunity. Together, they remind him to stay true to himself, never be a follower, and create his own path.
Honestly, it’s not just one moment—it’s watching the athlete and young man he’s becoming. He’s always been one of the youngest on his teams, but he’s never used his age as an excuse. He’s his own toughest critic, holds himself accountable, and is always looking to improve. As competitive as he is, he’s still team-first. He understands it’s bigger than him, and that maturity, drive, and selflessness at such a young age make me proud every time he takes the field.
