What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Shea loves to complete. He’s often told he has a fire, and we’ve seen it fuel his determination. He will dig deep on the mound, the court and on the track.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Shea is most inspired by his dad and uncles, Shohei Ohtani and Ja Morant. He loves to hear about the workouts his family did and the stadiums they played in. He loves that he is Japanese like Shohei and their names are similar. He loves Ja Morants style and wants corn rows and dreads to stand out.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

Shea had a teammate striking out often and we saw him sitting beside him in the dugout. We asked what he told him. He told him if he swings, he will get on base. The kid swung on the next at bat and had a triple. Shea sees the best in everyone when you ask who’s the best on the team, it’s always someone different or who’d you least expect and he has a reason.
