What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

What Skylar loves most about basketball is the feeling of being part of something bigger than herself. She loves competing, being with her teammates and knowing that every time she steps on the court, she has a chance to make an impact. Basketball has given her confidence, friendships, unforgettable memories and a place where she can truly be herself. She loves the challenge of getting better and proving to herself that hard work pays off.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

Her biggest inspiration is her dad, Duanne. He has been her coach, biggest supporter and one of the people who first taught her to love basketball. He has pushed her to work harder, believe in herself and understand that talent means nothing without effort. Off the court, she watches how he shows up for his family and others. Their basketball journey has had its challenges, but the lessons, memories and bond they’ve built will stay with her forever.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

My proudest moment has been watching Skylar grow into her love for basketball. I watched her go from simply playing on a team to truly wanting to become better. She has always been an amazing defender and rebounder, but at 16, she decided she wants to become a complete power forward. Now she practices her shot every day, works on her threes and jumpers, and plays through the soreness of workouts and multiple games. Watching that drive come from within her makes me prouder than any trophy.
