What is Youth Athlete of the Year?
Learn MoreI love being to build connections that transcend just sports. I have been able to meet so many people and create great relationships and memories with my teammates, coaches and even strangers. I love team bonding and even enduring freezing weather with my teammates because we are all in it together. We all bicker like siblings sometimes and I love it nonetheless.
I strive, while my ancestors live their wildest dreams through me. I am privileged to play sports that I love in a community that supports me. Inherently, they were not able to play sports with white athletes, and decades later I play alongside many people from many backgrounds. They never got that experience. Being able to do what I love is a small victory for many, and a big one for us. So my greatest wish is to go as far as I can athletically, and enrich my opportunities.
Last year I injured my hip and it has been one of the hardest parts of my athletic journey, thus far. What makes me the proudest of myself has been getting up everyday and striving to make myself better. My injury has been hard mentally as well as physically but I am proud to say that I have not let it take over and cripple me or my love for sports.
