As a soccer goalkeeper, I enjoy improving my reflexes, positioning, and decision-making while helping my team succeed. The position has strengthened my communication skills because I organize the defense and encourage my teammates throughout every match. I value teamwork, enjoy the competitive challenge, and appreciate the fun, positive atmosphere that makes every practice and game a rewarding experience.
My inspiration is Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha because, like me, he proved that being underestimated doesn't define your potential. People questioned him because of his age, while I was doubted for having only a season and a half of goalkeeping experience from middle school before earning a varsity spot as a Freshman at my small rural high school. His perseverance inspires me to keep working toward becoming the best goalkeeper I can be.
My proudest moment watching Tanner as a high school goalkeeper was seeing him help his team reach the second round of Oregon's 3A state playoffs. Even as the team's secondary goalkeeper, he stepped up when needed and made several crucial saves that helped his team advance. His determination, preparation, and ability to perform under pressure showed that every player can make a meaningful impact, regardless of their role.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Youth Athlete of the Year, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
