Tori

Tori has grit and she has to as a girl who plays a “boys” sport. Baseball is a game of failure and Tori plays it with skill and passion.

What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?

Tori said “Anyone can play but it takes hard work to be great” “Not an easy game, you can do everything right and still get out”. Tori loves the skill, the strategy, the grit baseball takes to play. She loves playing in the dirt, playing with friends, balling out on long tournament days, traveling and meeting new friends, playing on the fields her dad played on, changing people’s minds that girls can play ball. She loves watching the WPBL and dreaming of being an MLB player.

Who inspires them—on or off the field—and why?

The players of the WPBL, see her be her. Tori loved getting to see Alexia Jorge warmup the starting pitcher at the WBSC and how she “talked her up”, Skylar Kaplan and hearing her story of being told she wasn’t good enough to make her HS team (because she was a girl) and then going on the play in college and now the WPBL, seeing Denae Benites make an error and not hang her head and later making the same play. Also, shout out to her dog cupcake who never quits when wrestling with the family.

What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?

So many cool moments and memories, from hitting a HR at Cooperstown, to playing through an injury while catching and winning over a mom who was skeptical of having a girl on the team, to being the final out of in a tournament loss and not giving up. My proudest moment came when she made a team based on her skill, was cut because she’s a girl, and calmly said “their loss, where’s my glove” and then proceeded to make an even better team. She’s got grit!
