Hi I am Emme McCollister and my favorite thing about competitive cheer is that when i step foot on the mat every outside problem, every worry, every doubt that i have goes away. In that two minutes and thirty seconds i perform all that matters is that my teammates and i give it all. If I was arguing with one of my friends the day before, on the mat it goes away and we realize what really matters.
My dad inspires me the most. Every day before I perform, whether he can attend or not, he tells me good luck and that I am amazing. When I am nervous, he reminds me of how hard I have worked. My dad is the hardest working person I know and I always want to make him proud (even though If i mess up, he still would be). After routines, he is the first person i run to, always waiting to hug me and tell me he knew i could do it. He not only inspires me to work hard like him, but is always my #1 fan.
Emme was not able to attend nationals for competitive cheer due to her 8th grade graduation and banquet. She FaceTimed the team to cheer them on and support them as much as she could be. In that moment, she demonstrated character by putting her teams needs before her own disappointment. She provided encouragement and motivation even though she was not able to join them. As a father, this was truly heartwarming. The selflessness displayed and the love she had for her team, is truly remarkable.
Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like Youth Athlete of the Year, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
